Gestra Volunteers Help Green Harmony Woods with Andover Trees United
On February 5, 2025, a dedicated team of 14 employees from Gestra participated in a corporate volunteering day at Harmony Woods, collaborating with Andover Trees United (ATU). This initiative aligns with Gestra's and ATU’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
The volunteers planted 40 crab apple trees along the Right of Way path at the eastern end of Harmony Woods. This strategic planting aims to prevent further erosion caused by improper path usage. In the coming years, these trees will not only stabilize the soil but also adorn the area with beautiful blossoms, benefiting both local wildlife and the community. Additionally, the crab apples produced can be foraged for making jams and chutneys.
After the planting session, the team took a well-deserved tea break in the warmth of the newly constructed cabin—a sustainable, off-grid woodland classroom and volunteer base within Harmony Woods. The cabin provides a comfortable space for volunteers and serves as a hub for environmental education.
Following the break, the volunteers efficiently mulched one of the hedgerows, enhancing soil fertility and promoting healthy plant growth. Their swift and effective work throughout the day was greatly appreciated by Andover Trees United.
