ANDOVER TREES UNITED

OCTOBER 2025 NEWSLETTER

Dear Friends,

Autumn has arrived, bringing vibrant changes to the woodland, with interesting fungi, berries, and nuts all around! September was a busy and rewarding month here at ATU. We held our AGM at the Cabin in Harmony Woods, where we spent a day reflecting, learning, and connecting with nature. September also brought the end of this year’s biodiversity survey season. Our intern will now be working on this year’s Nature in Harmony Report, and we look forward to sharing the findings!

There is plenty more to come this October. Read on for details of our regular volunteer days, including wildflower and tree planting. We also have seasonal events including Tall Tales and Seasonal Stories, a chance for families and friends to celebrate autumn with crafts, folklore and fun.

Read on to find out what's been going on and what's coming up
From,
The ATU Team
Happy Trees, Happy Planet, Happy People

In Memory of Dr. Jane Goodall

This September we marked the UN International Day of Peace with our annual Peace Day Procession, a day we mark in partnership alongside Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots and hundreds of others around the world.

We were deeply saddened to hear the news of Jane Goodall’s passing.
Her incredible compassion and deep understanding of the natural world will continue to inspire us for years to come.

SEPTEMBER ROUNDUP
Celebrate last month's amazing work of volunteers and staff

MONDAY VOLUNTEER CONSERVATION DAYS

Every Monday, whether at Harmony Woods or the Vigo Road allotment, our volunteer days bring together teamwork, laughter, and care for nature. From tree care to fence maintenance, volunteers take on a wide range of seasonal tasks. Last month, this included a scything workshop where most the team spent the day mastering this traditional skill. Thank you to Chris for sharing his expertise! Thanks also to our amazing volunteers and the brilliant Aspire Defence team who joined us on 22nd September.

NATURE NURTURE

In September, we began our Autumn Nature Nurture sessions with Andover Young Carers. Together, we drew trees, explored printmaking techniques, and tried paper-making and bookbinding. A huge thank you to our brilliant organisers, Andover Young Carers, and to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation for funding the project!
