ANDOVER TREES UNITED

NOVEMBER
2025 NEWSLETTER

Dear Friends,

October was an exciting month for the ATU team! Volunteers, school children and business groups planted the new wildflower meadow at Diamond Woods, planting native wildflowers we have grown from seed over the past year. The Nature Nurture Project continued with creative sessions exploring photography and printmaking, and our Tall Tales and Seasonal Stories events offered interactive storytelling and Autumnal craft activities.

November brings our School Tree planting at Bury Hill. This year’s event will be particularly special, as it marks the fourth and final year of planting at Bury Hill! We’re still looking for volunteers to support the children as they plant their trees. In addition, our Community Tree Planting Day at Harmony Woods is coming up on the 8th November, offering even more opportunities for everyone to get involved. Read on to discover what happened last month and find out how you can take part this November!

MEET OUR VOLUNTEERS
Aaron

''I enjoy being part of Andover Trees United because the group is friendly and welcoming. The activities with the group are clearly organised and the calendar invites/ newsletters are really helpful reminders of the events. I appreciate how you can get involved as little or as much as you like, taking on physical work or creative activities. My favourite part, besides spending time at Harmony woods, is learning about the flora and fauna in the area. I would encourage others to join as the activities which ATU organise have lasting impacts on the local community. The group have established a rich, biodiverse reserve which they maintain and care for and they are happy to include people from all ages to join in.''

WILDFLOWER PLANTING AT DIAMOND WOODS

This month, school groups, Andover Trees volunteers, and business groups planted thousands of wildflowers at Diamond Wood’s new community meadow. This is part of our Disappearing Wildflowers project which aims to restore calcareous grassland and improve biodiversity.

Thanks go to our amazing volunteers for their hard work growing, taking care of and planting these wildflowers. We’d also like to thank the schools who have been involved in planting this meadow: Knights Enham, Clatford, Endeavour and Harrow Way. Additional thanks to the business groups who joined us this month, including Vail Williams, Newbury Building Society, Coca-Cola, Veolia, Lloyds and the MOD.

We look forward to seeing the meadow in full bloom next summer!

MONDAY VOLUNTEER CONSERVATION DAYS

Every Monday, whether at Harmony Woods or the Vigo Road allotment, our volunteer days bring together teamwork, laughter, and care for nature. From tree care to fence maintenance, volunteers take on a wide range of seasonal tasks. Last month, this included hard landscaping around the back of the cabin, installing new information signs and entrance gates at the new meadow, and planting wildflowers, among other tasks.

NATURE NURTURE

In October, we continued our Autumn Nature Nurture sessions with Andover Young Carers. Together, we explored photography using digital cameras and handmade frames, capturing autumn scenes and creating cyanotype prints from natural textures. We also made nature-inspired artworks and prints with handmade stamps.  A huge thank you to our brilliant organisers, Andover Young Carers, and to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation for funding the project!
