ANDOVER TREES UNITED

DECEMBER
2025 NEWSLETTER

Dear Friends,

December is here, and we have lots of festive events planned!

Our Tall Tales and Seasonal Stories workshops will be full of crafts and family fun. We’re also looking forward to our end-of-year party at Harmony Woods. Be sure to enter our Christmas Draw for a chance to win some fantastic prizes!

November was a great month for us. We ran our biggest annual event from the 10th –27th November, marking the fourth and final year of tree planting at Bury Hill Meadows, which made it particularly memorable! We also had our Community Tree and Wildflower Planting Day at Harmony Woods. Thank you to everyone who supported planting this month!

Read on to find out more about what happened in November and for details of our upcoming events!

This is a brilliant opportunity for anyone looking to develop practical skills in the conservation sector.

Alongside this role, there is the possibility of paid employment in addition to volunteering to complete an extended internship in ecology and youth activities. Contact us to learn more.

MEET OUR VOLUNTEERS
''After I retired, I felt like volunteering for something but wasn't sure what. Myself and a couple of friends did a willow birdfeeder making session at the cabin, which we really enjoyed. I was told that the group needed a volunteer to help support their forest school and it sounded perfect for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the children. After the forest school ended, I started helping out with the schools' tree and wildflower sessions. The children are amazing and we have great fun doing this. I also help out with the yearly surveys. My favourite activity though was the evening spent counting bats.''

TREE PLANTING

This year’s Schools’ Tree Planting Weeks at Bury Hill Meadows were filled with energy, purpose and pride as children from 22 primary schools, two secondary schools, Andover College and 11 local businesses joined forces to grow a woodland for the future. Over three weeks of frosty mornings, young people discovered how trees support ecosystems and combat climate change, learning that they have the power to create something lasting. Together, they planted 1,537 trees, capturing an estimated 16,907 kilograms of CO₂ in their first year.

Thank you to every school, volunteer, sponsor, parent and young person who joined us, and to Test Valley Borough Council and The Woodland Trust for their continued support.

THANK YOU CO-OP MEMBERS

We are delighted to share that Andover Trees United has received £1,793.72 through the Co-op Local Community Fund. A big increase from last year and a huge boost for our community nature work here in Andover. To every Co-op Member who chose us as their cause: Thank you.
Your everyday shopping has directly supported caring for Harmony Woods and creating new wildflower meadow spaces. It has also helped provide outdoor learning opportunities for local children and enabled community volunteering days that bring people together.

This funding helps us continue our mission: Happy trees, happy planet, happy people!
NOVEMBER ROUNDUP
Celebrate last month's amazing work of volunteers and staff

MONDAY VOLUNTEER CONSERVATION DAYS

Every Monday, whether at Harmony Woods or the Vigo Road allotment, our volunteer days bring together teamwork, laughter, and care for nature. From tree care to fence maintenance, volunteers take on a wide range of seasonal tasks. Last month, this included preparing for tree planting weeks, supporting the children as they planted their trees, planting out wildflowers in harmony woods and cabin maintenance, among other tasks.

NATURE NURTURE

This November, we enjoyed our final Nature Nurture sessions with Andover Young Carers, a wonderful conclusion to this year’s programme. Over four sessions, primary and secondary-age young carers made colourful natural inks. With these inks, they illustrated their initials and created expressive, tree-themed artwork

A huge thank you to our brilliant organisers Hebe and Liz, Andover Young Carers, and to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation for funding the project!

NOVEMBER'S COMMUNITY CONSERVATION DAY

This month’s Conservation Day at Harmony Woods was a great success!
We replaced several young trees that hadn’t survived the past season and planted more wildflowers along the Broad Walk. We also loaded up the Land Rover with tools and equipment, ready for next week’s tree-planting session at Bury Hill Meadows.

A huge thank-you to everyone who joined us! Learn more about our conservation days here: https://www.andovertrees.org.uk/blog-list/diggingit2

LANDSCAPING AT THE BACK OF THE CABIN

Thank you to Brian, Harry, Martin, Sam, Simone, Annette and Eleanor for their help on the 15th November for a day of cabin landscaping.

The final stage of transforming the cabin grounds into usable space for everyone is now complete! Our team has transformed the area behind the cabin in Harmony Woods, creating a brand-new patio space for everyone to enjoy. Thanks to Jewson, who provided a generous discount which allowed us to source all the supplies needed for the patio area.

We are so excited for this new area!
