MONDAY VOLUNTEER CONSERVATION DAYS
|
|
Every Monday, whether at Harmony Woods or the Vigo Road allotment, our volunteer days bring together teamwork, laughter, and care for nature. From tree care to fence maintenance, volunteers take on a wide range of seasonal tasks. Last month, this included a scything workshop where most the team spent the day mastering this traditional skill. Thank you to Chris for sharing his expertise! Thanks also to our amazing volunteers and the brilliant Aspire Defence team who joined us on 22nd September.

In September, we began our Autumn Nature Nurture sessions with Andover Young Carers. Together, we drew trees, explored printmaking techniques, and tried paper-making and bookbinding. A huge thank you to our brilliant organisers, Andover Young Carers, and to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation for funding the project!

Huge thanks to our wonderful friends from St Mary’s Church, Longstock. They returned to join Hebe, our 2025 ecological intern, for one of her final woodland surveys as part of the Nature in Harmony project. Above are some of the beautiful species they spotted. We’re so grateful for their continued support — what a fantastic way to wrap up the season!

FINAL BIODIVERSITY SURVEYS
|
|
The end of September marks the conclusion of our annual biodiversity surveys, which this year were completed by our Ecology intern, Hebe. These surveys take place every year from April through September, and the data collected is used to write our annual Nature in Harmony report.
A huge thanks goes to Natalia, for her valuable and dedicated support throughout the surveys.

Volunteering with us is a great way to contribute to action against climate change and biodiversity loss, and to make a difference in the local community. We welcome volunteers with many different skills, including:
- General conservation
- IT / tech
- Event organisation and support
- Running creative sessions
- Plant propagation
- Leafleting
- DIY and construction
- Legal advice
- Fundraising
- ... and more! If you have the time, we can use it :-)
In particular, we are looking for volunteers to support projects over the coming months, including wildflower planting with school groups at Diamond Wood in October and tree planting at Bury Hill Meadows in November.
We are also very happy to arrange volunteering days for corporate groups, particularly during our Schools' Planting Weeks in November / December.
Please get in touch if you can help by emailing abbey.sadler@andovertrees.org.uk. Any specific opportunities will be listed on our Ways To Help webpage as well as in this newsletter.
