WILDFLOWER SEED SOWING TO COINCIDE WITH THE SUPERBLOOM (PLATINUM JUBILEE) CELEBRATIONs

On Saturday 9th April, 20 volunteers including members of the youth team sowed wildflower seed onto the newly-prepared meadow area, banks and pond edge in the Habitats Trail, bringing to a conclusion 9 months of work.

The wildflowers, which are a mix of native chalk meadow species, should bloom between June and September and will coincide with the Superbloom (Platinum Jubilee) celebrations in the moat at the Tower of London.

It’s all done by hand, with the seed being mixed with sand before being spread to make sure there’s an even distribution, and pressed in afterwards.

Although modest by comparison (20 million seeds have been sown in the moat this spring) we are delighted to be doing our bit towards wildflower growing in the Queen’s Diamond Wood in Hampshire.
