Ecology & Community Outreach Internship - Apply Now

Our year-long Internship will run from April 2022 - April 2023.

It will offer high calibre students who have recently graduated with a life sciences or environmental sciences degree (in the past 5 years) the opportunity to experience full-time or part-time work as our resident intern at Andover Trees United.

As our intern, you will gain a valuable insight into the runnings of a grass-roots, community-led environmental education and conservation charity. You will be responsible for leading our wildlife survey and citizen science program ‘Nature in Harmony’ , and you will act as a mentor to our youth group, the Nature in Harmony Exchange Project. You will also have the opportunity to gain experience in other aspects of the charity’s work.

Your main area of focus (with support from the trustees and management team) will be on the ecology, wildlife monitoring and management of our community woodland and calcareous grassland, Harmony Woods. However, there is scope for you to steer your internship into additional areas that are of interest to you (for example, you may decide to get involved with fundraising, PR & publicity, communications, education, event planning and more).

A love of nature is essential, as is a keen desire to share your environmental passion and knowledge with the local community.

You’ll work alongside our volunteer management team, made up of experienced professionals from a wide range of backgrounds. You’ll collaborate with our Outdoor Learning officer, Admin Officer and Operations Manager - teamwork and good communication will be vital in this role.

You will help to plan and deliver interesting and exciting nature and arts based community projects, and you’ll be doing a mixture of office and outdoor land monitoring and management work , from writing project reports to surveying wildflowers, from leading citizen science activities to building fences! So be prepared to get stuck in.

This is an unpaid internship, however, Andover Trees United will make contributions to your board and lodging costs and will provide you with a monthly living allowance. This can be a full-time or part-time role.
