Ruth Facey
Ruth Facey, artist jeweller and several other things.
I am looking forward to using fine (pure) silver with some of the wood from the ash tree.
The initial plan is to shape some simple forms, of a size to hold in the hand, and then inlay silver to highlight surfaces, textures and colour. So as well as the feel of wood, not necessarily completely smooth, there will be the tactile presence of silver. Lines and dots will feature but finished results will depend on what comes out of the shaping and forming.
I will also bring colour, probably bright maybe or even neon / fluorescent, to the shavings and make a delicate mobile.
Documenting and recording these processes will be recorded in a handmade book with prints made from ash.
I have had a long career as a jeweller, and now teaches jewellery making at the Workshop Gallery in Andover. Recent interests have developed work in multi-media using wire, paper and the physical opportunities of shadows. I have shown work as an Associate Artist with Chapel Arts Studios and am a regular exhibitor with Hampshire Open Studios.
